8/01 London to Brantford, Ontraio

Today’s ride was so exciting that there were no notes on my voice recorder and only one photo in my camera.  We rode by wheat fields, corn fields, wheat fields, soybeans and more wheat. Well I did see two orchards. And there must have been vegetables and more because we rode by three or four farmers markets. Supposedly we’ll see vineyards and wineries tomorrow as we approach New York.

I’m ready for New England and a change on scenery. Maybe I’m jaded; five of us were having lunch in a Subway at mile 50 today and Gene remarked how he enjoyed the farms today. I’ve seen farm after farm after farm and the neat ones with photographic barns and silos were a state of two away.

We did see some strange buildings, tall and narrow, in one field and none of us could figure out what they were. Turns out they were for dying tobacco, a product grown here until recent years.

Canadian Joe Hill told me that we’d encounter hills tomorrow, hills similar to the Texas Hill Country. The itinerary doesn’t show much climbing so we’ll have to see. We also have a good chance of showers tomorrow. We ride to Niagara Falls tomorrow, the day after is our last rest day (Niagara Falls) and the end is one week later!

Day 41, 66 miles, 989 feet climbing, 4.3 hrs. #,104 miles so far

9 days left, 636 miles left
